As a Muslim citizen, I feel uncomfortable when race and religion are used as political tools to gain support. Islam teaches values such as justice, honesty, unity, and compassion. Therefore, political discussions should focus on solving real problems faced by the people, such as the cost of living, education, healthcare, and job opportunities, rather than creating fear or division among different communities.
I believe that race and religion are important parts of a person's identity and should be respected. However, when these sensitive issues are repeatedly used during political campaigns, they can encourage misunderstanding and suspicion between different groups. This is not healthy for a multicultural society like Malaysia, where people of different backgrounds have lived together for many generations.
As Muslims, we should be confident that our religion is strong and does not need to be constantly used as a political weapon. Political leaders should demonstrate their commitment to Islamic values through good governance, integrity, accountability, and service to the people. Actions that improve the lives of citizens are often more meaningful than speeches that focus only on emotional issues.
In my opinion, all political parties, including PAS, UMNO, and others, should promote unity and constructive debate. Voters should be encouraged to evaluate policies, performance, and leadership quality rather than making decisions based solely on race or religious rhetoric. A mature democracy requires informed discussions that bring people together and help the country move forward as one nation.
